What are your opening hours?

You can come and visit us at our showroom in Ryton without an appointment between 9:30am and 5:30pm, Monday-Friday. Saturday and Sunday visits are available by appointment only. You can input your details on our website 24 hours per day, and we’ll get you a price for your car as quickly as we can. We can also come to you – we’re flexible around appointments and are happy to visit your home or place of work at a time that suits you.

The car I'm selling to you doesn't come up when I input the registration number

Please double check the registration number, and if it is correct please submit as it is, and we'll figure it out!

If I give you my details how will you make contact?

We will text and email you your valuation. We may also call you if we need further information from you, or if we have a buyer already for your type of car. We have ready buyers for a lot of makes and models , meaning we can offer you more for your car.

If I want to sell my car to you, how quickly do I get my money?

We send money via the Faster Payments service. Usually the funds hit instantaneously, but sometimes take a little longer. Unlike our competitors who hide up to £100 of fees in their small print, we charge absolutely nothing on any cars sold to us, and even same day payments don’t incur fees!

What assumptions do you make about my car that I want to sell?

We assume the car hasn’t been in any major accidents, and that it isn’t a write-off.

We assume the car isn’t an import, and that it is Right Hand Drive, that it hasn’t been used as a taxi, driving school car, police/emergency vehicle, courier or private hire; and that it hasn’t had any motability adaptations.

If any of these are the case and you don’t tell us, the value would be reduced when we do our final checks before purchase – so please let us know.

We can still buy these vehicles, but we need this information up front. You can text or email us back after we’ve been in touch,

What do I need to sell my car?

The V5 document. This must be in your name or in the name of a direct family member who lives at the same address.

Photo ID – either a passport or driving licence. (If it’s a passport we’ll need proof of address too).

Service History for the car.

Both keys. (Unless you’ve told us otherwise)

Bank details. So we can pay you for your car. The account has to be in the name of the registered keeper, or a direct family member living at the same address.

Valid “in date” Finance settlement letter. If you have outstanding finance on the car.

Locking wheel nut tool, if your car has locking wheel nuts.

My car has got optional extras - how do I tell you about these?

You can call us on 0191 413 1234, or email peter@rubberduckcars.com

What happens if I make a mistake in the information I give you about my car?

We like to take a common sense approach to buying your car. If you’ve missed something minor we try our best not to re-adjust the value we’ve offered you. We also won’t reduce the price by any more than it would cost us to rectify the damage you’ve missed.

If it’s a key you can’t find, or service history that you can’t verify we’ll reduce the value of the car using common sense.

How does it work if I sell my car to you with outstanding finance?

We pay you the difference and settle the finance with the finance company directly. We will send you proof of this. If you owe more than the car is worth, you can pay us the difference and we’ll take care of the settlement in house.

I've got a private plate on the car I want to sell you, how does that work?

We can buy a car with a private plate on, but if you want to keep it you’ll have to put it on retention prior to selling it to us. We need the V5 document, which usually takes a few days to arrive if you use the DVLA’s online service. We can’t purchase your car or pay you for it without the V5 document, so please bear this in mind.

My car is SORN - can I still sell it to you?

Yes you can – we’d love to buy your car even if it isn’t currently taxed, and we can collect it too to make life easier.

What do you do with the cars you buy?

We sell some of the cars retail, to the general public, and sell others to our extensive network of contacts within the motor trade.

Can I sell a car on behalf of a company?

Yes, we will need you to bring along the following:

  • A form of photo identification for the person bringing the car.
  • Letter signed from the company director giving authorisation for that person to sell on their behalf.
  • Company account details e.g. bank paying in book or company bank statement.
  • One form of identification for the business address.
  • Both sets of car keys if available.
  • All service history and MOT certificates if available.
  • V5 logbook/registration certificate registered in the company’s name and address.

Further documentation may be required, however you will be advised of this prior to visiting your local branch.

The car's damaged / or in need of repairs, can I still sell it to you?

Of course. We’d prefer to speak with you about this, so give us a call or email peter@rubberduckcars.com.

Can I sell a car for a friend or family member?

Sure, but we’ll need a few more things from you:

Photo ID  – Passport/Driving License

A recent proof of address for the registered keeper which much match the address on the V5.

We need to pay to the registered keeper’s UK bank account, so we’ll need proof of the account details.

Plus we need photo ID for the person who we’re dealing with.

Is the price you offer me guaranteed?

The price we offer you is dependent on the information that you have provided about your car. We try to be as accurate as possible, but until we have seen your car we cannot offer you a final price, so the valuation we provide prior to viewing is not a contract.

If there are any differences between your car and the description you provided, or upon viewing we consider that its value is affected by its condition or history, or there are any unusual features or modifications, which we weren’t made aware of, the price that we offer may differ from the original valuation.

We aim to buy your car for a fair price that makes you want to sell to us, and recommend your family members and friends.

How do I make a complaint?

You can call us, or email peter@rubberduckcars.com

I have outstanding finance on my car. How does that work when you buy my car?

That’s fine, please bring along an in-date settlement figure from your finance company and we will settle the finance and pay you the difference.

The V5 for my car isn't in my name - can you still buy it?

We can only purchase vehicles from those that are the registered keeper. You can sell on behalf of someone, but we’d need to pay them directly. You can sell on behalf of a direct family member with their permission providing you live at the same address.

What if the address on my V5 doesn't match my current address?

That’s no problem, just make sure you bring along proof of your current address.
